BRIAN Ryan was a lead figure as Dublin outfit Na Fianna swept past Sarsfields of Cork in Sunday’s AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship Final at Croke Park.

His contribution for the winners was immense, including three delightful points from play.

An All-Ireland medal winner with Limerick in 2020, Ballysheedy-native Ryan transferred from his native South Liberties to Na Fianna in 2023.

His stunning club performances have earned the 26-year-old a call-up by Dublin (and Cuala) manager Niall Ó Ceallacháin.

Dublin begin their league campaign with a visit from Antrim on Saturday next, with Ryan – and his Na Fianna inter-county colleagues – likely to be rested for this fixture.

In times past Limerick’s Maurice O’Brien (Garryspillane) also switched to Dublin, famously winning a Leinster Senior Championship medal with his adopted county in 2013.

Adare legend Charlie McCarthy was also a member of the Na Fianna squad at the weekend.

The new All-Ireland winners were coached by Foynes’ Eoin Roche.
