Irish Chamber Orchestra adds a spring to its step with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO) is set to captivate audiences with a vibrant performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons featuring Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud this month.

Taking place in Dublin, Limerick, and Newport, Co. Mayo on April 10, 11, and 12, this concert promises an unforgettable journey through the changing seasons, enriched by Kraggerud’s passionate interpretation.

Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is a timeless masterpiece known for its vivid imagery and technical brilliance. Kraggerud brings this music to life with extraordinary flair, conveying everything from the warmth of summer to the chilling cold of winter.

“Expect an energising performance, with Kraggerud’s interpretation infusing Spring with bright, birdlike calls and dynamic contrasts. His rendition of Summer brings the evocative sound of the cuckoo to life, while the finale sees Kraggerud shine. Autumn is marked by a lively, spring-like energy, while Winter captures skaters moving gracefully through the chill.” says ICO’s Media Relations Manager, Charlotte Eglington.

Kraggerud will also perform three of his own compositions, creating musical bridges between the Vivaldi concertos with pieces that are both accessible and beautiful. These additions enhance the experience, connecting the seasons through key-related music and offering something fresh for every music lover.

“By inserting my little musical commentary in between, it becomes something new: you listen a little bit differently because it’s in an unfamiliar context. As well, when I expose something of myself in my own pieces, it allows the listener to better understand where I am coming from when I play the Vivaldi” says Kraggerud.
