A LIMERICK man has put his name forward for the upcoming presidential election.

Donncha MacGabhann, from Knockainey in County Limerick, launched his presidential campaign this week.

The Limerick man wants to put โ€œgreater emphasis on the presidentโ€™s role as a guardian of the Constitutionโ€.

The campaign was launched at the Fir Grove Hotel in Mitchelstown, County Cork.

As part of his campaign, Mr MacGabhann is setting out on a six-month tour across Ireland, which he says will โ€œprovide abundant opportunities for listening to and engaging with groups and individuals of all ages and from all walks of lifeโ€.

Running as an independent candidate, he will also be seeking the support of four local authorities to endorse his candidacy later this year.
