A FORMER director of economic development at Limerick City County Council has been appointed to the prestigious role of project director for the much-anticipated 2027 Ryder Cup in Limerick.
Waterford native Tom Enright was announced for the leading position in bringing one of golf’s most prized tournaments to Limerick in autumn 2027.
Mr Enright will be no stranger to Limerick, having previously served as the first Economic Development Director under the amalgamated Limerick City and County Council.
He has also been described as the architect of the Limerick 2030 economic renewal scheme.
Following his time at Limerick City and County Council, the Waterford man took the move closer to home, to serve as the head of Wexford County Council.
Mr Enright was announced this week as the project director for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which is expected to bring countless thousands to Shannonside for the blue-ribband golfing tournament, and many more millions in investment in job creation, infrastructure, and tourism.
Mr Enright’s appointment follows a recruitment process held in recent weeks, with him expected to take up the role from the beginning of May. The role will see him engage with stakeholders at a local and national governmental level, as well as within the Ryder Cup structure, hosts Adare Manor, and other state and commercial agencies.
It is understood the salary level associated with the high-profile role is aligned with a senior position in the civil service, a principal officer, which can range from approximately €100,000 to €130,000 per year.
Welcoming Mr Enright’s appointment, Limerick TD and Minister for Art, Culture, Communications, Media, and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, said that the former Council director will be “a great leader for Limerick”.
“Tom is a dedicated public servant with significant experience in complex project management and delivery. He will be a great leader for Limerick as we strive to deliver a world-class golf experience in Adare in 2027,” Minister O’Donovan said.
“We are lucky to have someone of his calibre in the driving seat now, who will work across all aspects of the project to ensure we host an event to be proud of for years to come.”
