Rร“ISรN Scanlon, recent winner of the Helm Holm Scottish Womenโ€™s Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon, has a strong West Limerick connection.

Her father Anthony is from Askeaton, who met his wife Taneisha Robinson (Jamaica) while both were in the United States on an athletics scholarships.

Anthonyโ€™s parents are Michael – himself an enthusiastic golfer at Newcatle West GG – and รšna, who both reside in Askeaton.

With Anthony on her bag, Rรณisรญn won in Scotland by a commanding five shots.

She was the only player from a competitive field to finish the Championship under par.

โ€œIโ€™m really happy, Iโ€™m happy that all the work that I put in back in Albany is paying off,โ€ said Scanlon who made her debut at the Irish Open last year.

โ€œI was really nervous due to the fact the last round was on a different golf course where anything can happen but I played well. This is my first time playing this event and itโ€™s so special to be out here on a Sunday.โ€

Scanlon is attached to Woborn GC in Mllton Keyes, London.
