Sizzling culinary talent showdown at local competition

THOMOND Park played host to a sizzling showdown of young culinary talent for the fifth Shannon Region Junior Chef of the Year competition.

This year’s title was awarded to Oscar Mehta, a transition year student at St Anne’s Community College in Killaloe.

Oscar wowed judges with his composed execution and creative flair, presenting a menu that impressed the seasoned professionals on the judging panel including Chef Wade Murphy of 1826 Adare, Michelin Star Chefs Stefan Matz and Aidan McGrath.

The other finalists were Oisin Tierney from Ennis Community College, Sara Murphy from Coláiste Íde and Iosef, Abbeyfeale and Aleksander Rutkowski of Mungret Community College.
