WATERFORD are not getting carried away with Sunday’s sensational win over Clare in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship at Walsh Park, according to manager Peter Queally.
Stephen Bennett emerged the goal-hero for a side who next host holders Limerick on Saturday (May 3) at 6pm.
“Our eyes are wide open as to where it leaves us,” commented Queally. “We were in this position last year. We have to get something out of next Saturday’s match. We’re at home to Limerick; it is important that we get results in these home games and make it a bit of a fortress and make it a place that is hard to come to. We can’t use the six-day turnaround as an excuse.”
He added: “The secret now, if there’s a way of cracking it, is to get the emotion back down and get those energy levels way up again on Saturday night and bring the same energy, intensity, aggression and work rate that we had today.”
The venue has a capacity of only around 12,000, and tickets are long sold-out.
Limerick’s last Championship outing against Waterford at Walsh Park was back in 2019 and John Kiely’s team won handsomely, 2-24 to 0-10.
Limerick were 0-30 to 2-14 winners in the corresponding fixture in ‘24.
Cork’s Colm Lyons will referee.
