Woman dead in house fire in Limerick City

A WOMAN has died tragically as the result of a house fire in Limerick City in the early hours of this Saturday morning (May 3).

An investigation is currently underway into the nature of the shock fire, which took place at a home on Wolfe Tone street in Limerick City, though it’s understood there is no current suspicion of foul play.

The woman, described as being in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene after her body was found by emergency responders.

The fire took hold of the home in the early hours of this Saturday morning. Gardaí and the fire services were deployed and quickly got the blaze under control.

The scene of the woman’s tragic passing has been preserved for technical examination and the body of the deceased is to undergo a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have any information on the tragic death to come forward.
