Kandinsky, Triangles & Thread is a vibrant celebration of textile art

A VIBRANT new exhibition, Kandinsky, Triangles & Thread, is now running at The People’s Museum of Limerick, celebrating the expressive world of textile art through the mediums of patchwork and quilting by artist Loretta O’Brien.

Limerick boasts a proud textile heritage dating back to the 19th century — from the Linen Hall on Carr Street (1818), to the world-renowned Limerick Lace industry on Clare Street and Glentworth Street (1829–1860s), and later, to one of the largest clothing manufacturers globally on Lord Edward Street (1853–1974). Loretta O’Brien continues this legacy with a contemporary voice, blending tradition and innovation through her craft.

A dedicated member of the Irish Patchwork Society for over 40 years, this marks Loretta’s first solo exhibition in Limerick. Her work has previously been exhibited in France, Youghal and Nenagh, and featured internationally from South Africa to the United States.

Inspired by abstract artist Vassily Kandinsky, Loretta translates bold visual language into fabric and thread. The exhibition also features work from the touring show Annaghmakerrig 3, as well as meditative pieces exploring topical themes through geometric motifs.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 25 May.
