
ANOTHER special sporting occasion for Limerick will unfold at Cork’s Turners Cross on Saturday (May 24, 3pm) courtesy of the 2025 FAI Junior Cup Final between Fairview Rangers and North End United of Wexford.
Fairview have won this blue riband of club junior football on a remarkable nine occasions, the most recent of which occurred in 2020.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the club’s breakthrough at national level.
The 1965 replayed All-Munster final against Douglas (Cork) was played in front of a packed Markets Field and the ‘View were comfortable 3-0 winners, with the goals through Seamus McCarthy (2) and Gerry Power.
The Blues, under the joint management of Mick Shiel and Paul O’Donnell, are the form team of the competition.
En route, there have been merited wins over Shelbourne, Kilmallock, Regional United, Ballyheigue Athletic (Kerry), St Ita’s (Dublin), Mervue United (Galway), Fanad United (Donegal), and Dublin’s Lucan United.
Similarly, North End have come through a testing campaign and were most recent semi-final (1-0) winners over fancied Salthill Devon of Galway in Bunclody, County Wexford.
In captain Shane Duggan, Fairview Rangers have an exceptional leader.
Others very much to the fore for the recently crowned Premier League Champions are goalkeeper Josh McCarthy, Brian Aherne, Cian McNamara, and Oleg Vysochan.
Unfortunately, Darragh Rainsford picked up an injury a little while back, but not before knocking home a superb six goals in the earlier rounds of the competition.
Since Rainsford’s enforced departure, the scores have arrived from the likes of Duggan, McNamara, Habideen Gbadego, and Oleg Vysochan.
