RESIDENTS in HSE Mid West’s Older Persons Community Nursing Units are getting front-row seats to this year’s GAA action, thanks to a renewed partnership between HSE Mid West and GAA+.
Building on the success of last year’s initiative, GAA+ has once again provided complimentary access to its full 2025 GAA Championship schedule for each of the 10 Older Persons Community Nursing Units in the Mid West region.
The move is particularly appreciated by the many passionate Limerick hurling supporters who now call the region’s community nursing units their homes – many of whom have followed their teams through thick and thin throughout their lives.
Commenting on the return of the initiative, Gavin Doyle, marketing manager at GAA+, said that “a good match can bring people of all ages together and send old fond memories flooding back to us all”.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the HSE for the second year in a row and are grateful to the frontline HSE staff caring for our older people for making the partnership possible.”
“It’s been heartening to see the joy and excitement this partnership with GAA+ has brought into our Community Nursing Units,” added Aisling Ryan, head of service for older persons at HSE Mid West.
“The GAA holds a special place in Irish life, and for many older people it represents not just sport, but shared memories, local pride and lifelong connection. Initiatives like this make a real difference in supporting social connection and emotional wellbeing in our care settings.”
