NATIVE Limerick business NOM! Treats have announced they are to close their three stores across the city.
Recognised for their colourful shopfronts and signature sweet treats, they were located onย Thomas Street, Castletroy and The Crescent Shopping Centre.
The business stated online that the decision to close was based on ‘unsustainable cost increases and growing competition from international chains.’
“After pouring our hearts into NOM! Treats we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors due to rising costs that have made it impossible for us to continue or compete with international chains. This business was never just about products or services — it was about people. It was about the late nights, early mornings, the small wins, the big dreams, and most importantly, the community that grew around us. You believed in us, stood by us, and gave us purpose.”
Adrian Cummins, CEO of the Restaurants Association of Ireland commented on today’s announcement, describing it as “a familiar story and a heartbreaking loss for the dedicated team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.”
Mr Cummins is now calling on the government to take meaningful action, including the promised return of the 9 per cent VAT rate, due to be implemented on January 1st 2026, along with a reduction in PRSI.
“For NOM Treats, like so many others, rising costs and the growing
dominance of global chains have made it impossible to stay open. The arrival of more and more international chains, eager to fill the gaps left behind by struggling Irish businesses, is no coincidence, it’s a trend that’s accelerating”, Mr Cummins added.
“Without immediate intervention, we will keep losing indigenous
enterprises while international chains take their place. While there is a place for international chains this cannot become the future of Irish business.”
