A live summer party will get into full gear in Newcastle West this Saturday (June 14) as SummerJam 2025 kicks off.
The reggae/brass/funk extravaganza has been happening in Clearys in the heart of the West Limerick town for the last five years, and has involved DJ sets by the likes of the renowned Sean Mahony.
In previous years, the one-day music spectacular has seen ‘West Coast Hip-Hop’ nights, as well as pulsing DJ sets, all as part of SummerJam.
However, this year sees a slightly different twist on things, as the event goes live.
Local performer Trevor Sexton plays on a music bill with UK Reggae heavyweights Captain Accident & The Disasters, as well as leading festival kings, TBL8, a Dublin-based brass/funk outfit, playing everything from Billie Eilish to Marvin Gaye and everything in between.
As well as a bevy of intoxicating music, there will be food trucks, party vibes, and a fantastic beer garden to kick the summer off with a bang.
“I get people telling me its like any national festival like Electric Picnic or whatever, except its better because they get to not sleep in a tent and go home to their own bed that night,” West Limerick publican Seamus Cleary enthused.
Trevor Sexton, one of Newcastle West’s finest performers, who has spent the last number of years touring the world with his music, is set to do an entire Bob Marley set, prepared specifically for SummerJam Live.
“Bob Marley saved my life,” Trevor declares.
“I discovered his music at around 14. I can remember being uplifted for the first time in a long time by the music, I was instantly hooked on his sound and the message of love and togetherness. I can’t explain how or even why but I felt in some songs he was speaking directly to me.”
He told the Limerick Post that he “can’t wait for Summerjam this weekend. I’ve sang Bob’s song for years but this is the first time I’m doing a full set of just Marley songs in my home town, in Cleary’s, which will always have a special place in my heart. Seamus gave me my first gig when I went back playing music.”
