
GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses and information about an aggravated burglary in which the occupant of a home in Limerick City was confronted by a knife-wielding thief.
No one was injured in the armed break-in, Gardaí said, however the homeowner, who was confronted by the male burglar, was left shaken by the incident, which took place this past Sunday (June 15)
It is understood that the knife-wielding burglar fled the home with a number of items, though specific information as to the items stolen in the terrifying incident have not been shared.
Gardaí said the aggravated burglary occurred at a residential property in the O’Connell Avenue area of Limerick City at approximately 8am on Sunday morning.
“A man entered the premises and confronted the homeowner with a knife, before fleeing with a number of items. The homeowner was uninjured,” a Garda statement read.
Gardaí conducted a forensic examination of the scene and asked that “anyone with any information regarding this incident come forward”.
Following the frightening incident, Gardaí in Limerick have sent out an appeal for “any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were in the O’Connell Avenue area between 7.45am and 9.15am (on Sunday) to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí”.
Gardaí further stated that anyone with information on the knife-point burglary is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
The Garda statement added that “investigations are ongoing” into Sunday morning’s knife-point burglary.
