Calls to install speed camera on trial basis for Limerick village

The Cappamore-Kilmallock representative was informed that trials are currently being undertaken nationally with respect to fixed speed cameras on both national and regional roads.

FIANNA Fรกil councillor Martin Ryan has called on Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) to install an averaging speed camera system on a trial basis, “in a village like Elton”, on a regional road.

Speaking at last week’s full meeting of the local authority, Cllr Ryan said that this should be on a benefit analysis basis as a method to reduce speed while monitoring cost comparison, overall environmental and safety benefits for a community.

The Cappamore-Kilmallock representative was informed that trials are currently being undertaken nationally with respect to fixed speed cameras on both national and regional roads.

“Upon completion of these trials, the process and requirements with respect to the positioning of these cameras shall be examined,” the Council revealed.
