SINN Féin Senator Joanne Collins has welcomed debate highlighting the pressing issues of insurance costs.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Collins called for delivery of tangible solutions.
She highlighted two particular areas of insurance difficulties that she says continue to raise; the existential threat facing owners of our thatched homes, and the crippling burden of motor insurance in rural Ireland—a burden made worse by the “chronic” lack of public transport.
“The crisis facing thatched homeowners remains dire. These homes are more than just houses— they are living monuments to our heritage.
But owners face soaring insurance premiums, often exceeding €2,500, or worse, no coverage at all. With up to half of thatched properties uninsured, families live under constant threat.”
