Poc Fada win for Colin Ryan

FOR a remarkable third year on the trot, Pallasgreen’s Colin Ryan has won the M Donnelly sponsored Munster Poc Fada Championship.

The event was hosted by Garryspillane and staged in the Galtee Mountains.

Ryan won from Tipperarary’s Cathal Dillon, with Limerick’s Aaron Murphy (Hospital Herbertstown) in third place.

Less than a shot covered the first three.

The winner picked up the coveted Tommy Quaid Memorial Cup, which he can now keep as a three-time champion.

Waterford’s Seán Óg O’Regan was best in the under-16 grade, with David Moran of Ahane in a very respectable fourth place.

In the under-16 section, Katie Hedderman (Kilmallock) finished a superb second, only narrowly losing out to Saoirse Ryan of Tipperary.

The All-Ireland Finals will be held in the Cooley Mountains, County Louth, at the start of August.

Previous Limerick winners of the national title are Vincent Godfrey (Bruff), Pat Hartigan (South Liberties), Tommy Quaid (Feohanagh), Albert Shanahan (South Liberties) and Colin Ryan (Pallasgreen).
