NEW CANCER treatment technology, which allows precise targeting of tumours, giving better results along with fewer side effects and reduced treatment time, is on its way to Limerick.
This is following The โฌ5.6million investment in radiotherapy technology, the TrueBeam LINAC with HyperSight imaging, which has been launched by the Mater Private Network in its Dublin hospital with a pledge it will soon to be available in its Limerick Radiation Oncology Centre.
The advanced radiotherapy system uses high-quality imaging to deliver faster, more precise cancer treatment.
Making the announcement, Director of Cancer at Mater Private Network Hugh Healy said the technology “marks a major milestone for cancer care in Irelandโ.
“This is the first time this technology is available in the country. The TrueBeam LINAC with HyperSight is capable of producing high quality scans in just six seconds, enhancing the precision of tumour targeting while making treatment times quicker for patients.โ
Radiation oncology at Mater Private Network is led by a team of seven sub-specialty radiation oncologists. Working closely with the Medical Oncology Department and the multidisciplinary team at The Mater Hospitals, UCD Cancer Centre, and University Hospital Limerick, the team works to optimise individualised treatment pathways and patient outcomes.
Thanks to improved workflows and more efficient technology, patients referred to Mater Private Network for radiotherapy, including for prostate, brain, lung, and other site-specific cancers, can typically be seen within one week and begin treatment within one month of referral, ensuring expedited access to potentially life-saving care.
