Limerick carers to benefit from update to Carer’s Allowance

Since June 2022, Carer's Allowance income disregards have increased by โ‚ฌ292.50 for single carers and โ‚ฌ585 for carers in couples which is an 88 per cent increase.

MORE than 250 Limerick carers will benefit from improvements to the Carer’s Allowance means test, Minister of State Niall Collins has said.

Minister Collins welcomed confirmation from Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary that 258 carers in Limerick are set to benefit from changes to the means test so that many more can avail of Carer’s Allowance or potentially receive a higher rate of payment.

The weekly income disregard for Carer’s Allowance is now increased by โ‚ฌ175 to โ‚ฌ625 per week for single carers, and by โ‚ฌ350 to โ‚ฌ1,250 per week for a couple.

Since June 2022, Carer’s Allowance income disregards have increased by โ‚ฌ292.50 for single carers and โ‚ฌ585 for carers in couples which is an 88 per cent increase.

The increases also make the scheme accessible to more carers.
