EIGHT abandoned horses were seized on one day alone in the Treaty City by Limerick City and County Council.
This includes five horses at the Island Field in St Mary’s Park and three from O’Malley Park in Southill, all seized by the local authority on July 3.
A further two horses were seized by the local authority on July 7 in the Lisnagry area, and one in Ballylahiff, Oola, the next day on July 8.
According to a Council statement, the owners or keepers of the abandoned horses are not known.
Abandoned horses seized by the local authority are held for five days and, if not claimed by their owner or keeper, are re-homed to shelters outside of Limerick in accordance with the 1996 Control of Horses Act.
