GARDAÍ have arrested a man as part of their investigations into the death of a pensioner in Limerick City overnight.

The deceased, aged in his 70s, was found with serious injuries following an “incident of assault” in the Watergate/Cornmarket area of the Treaty City.

The man sustained a life-threatening head injury during an altercation outside an apartment in the area, Gardaí believe.

He was discovered seriously injured shortly before midnight.
