BROADFORD native Kevin Quaid was re-elected to the position of Chair of the European Working Group of People with Dementia for a second term.

The role of the EU working group is to be a voice for the 10 million people living with dementia (which has been revealed to be the leading cause of death in the UK) in Europe.

The group is made up of people with all types of dementia from 15 different countries in Europe and the UK.

Kevins role as chair includes attending several meetings a year, some online and some in person in Luxemburg and Brussels, in the European Parliament and lunch debates as well as attending the European Day of People with Disabilities and the European Disability forum.

Kevin is part of the jury deciding on the Anti Stigma awards each December for the country in Europe that comes up with the top ideas to try and get rid of the stigma that can still surround dementia and those living with the disease.

Having lived with Lewy body dementia since his diagnosis at age 53, he was also the focus of a Netflix documentary and has written several books on dementia, including Lewy Body Dementia Survival and Me and I am Kevin, Not Lewy.
