ONE of Ireland’s largest businesses, at a landmark building on Limerick’s O’Connell Street, has unveiled a €5million refit of its store on the city’s main thoroughfare.
The big unveiling at Penneys O’Connell Street marked the biggest refurbishment of the store in over a decade and will provide a major boost to Limerick City’s shopping experience and local economy, a spokesperson for the retail giant said.
Originally opened on Shannonside in 1980, the newly revamped store spans 25,000 square feet across two shopping floors. The refurbishment includes upgrades to customer areas, the addition of new fashion and interior ranges, as well as more cubicles and a wheelchair-accessible cubicle.
Speaking at the relaunch of Penneys O’Connell Street, Minister Kieran O’Donnell, TD for Limerick City, said that “Penneys has long been a cornerstone of retail on Limerick’s O’Connell Street, and this investment is a clear vote of confidence in our city’s future”.
“It’s great to see a business with deep roots in the community continuing to evolve while providing valuable local employment. .”
Michelle Ryan, CEO of Limerick Chamber, also welcomed the refurbishment, adding that “Penneys is an anchor for Limerick’s retail economy, and this modernisation demonstrates their ongoing commitment to the city”.
“The investment not only supports jobs but also enhances
the vibrancy of the city centre … We look forward to seeing footfall grow in the city as customers return to enjoy this fresh new store.”
