THE Thomond Wind Ensemble can toot their own horn after taking home a top prize from the South of Ireland Band Championships at their very first appearance in the competition.
The local musical outfit took first place in the senior section at the awards, held in Clonakilty, County Cork, beating out stiff competition from 34 bands for the Whycherly Perpetual Cup.
The 60-member Limerick group also took home the Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra Award for Best Performance of an Original Wind Band Composition, while Angel Hernandez swooped the Kingston Cup award for Best Soloist.
The group was founded in 2024 by local musician, conductor, and teacher Dr Andrew Jordan.
