LOCAL interest in the FAI Cup ended over the weekend as Limerick’s representatives, Treaty United and Fairview Rangers, were both beaten by Derry City and Shelbourne, respectively.
At the Market’s Field, Derry were worthy 5-1 winners and at Singland Park, Shelbourne too were deserving of their 4-0 victory.
In Garryowen, there were no goals in a cagey opening half but the floodgates opened on the restart.
A highlight was a hat trick from Liam Boyce.
Lee Devitt grabbed an 80th minute goal for Tommy Barrett’s side.
At a lively Singland Park, the Champions League-bound visitors were much better than our worthy ambassadors.
