Saint Mary’s Cathedral to bring special concert honouring Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday

SAINT Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, will mark the 90th birthday of acclaimed Estonian composer Arvo Pärt with a special lunchtime concert on Tuesday, September 23 at 1.15pm. The event also celebrates the first anniversary of the honorary Estonian consulate in Limerick and will be attended by Her Excellency Ms Kairi Künka, Estonian Ambassador to Ireland.

Admission is free. Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Estonia in Dublin, the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Limerick, and the Arvo Pärt Centre in Estonia, the concert will feature local musicians performing a selection of Pärt’s profoundly spiritual and contemplative works.

“This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the timelessness and quiet beauty of Arvo Pärt’s music and his influence on contemporary classical music,” said Ambassador Künka.

Julie Long, Honorary Consul to Estonia for the Mid West of Ireland, added: “The lunchtime concerts in Saint Mary’s Cathedral are a Limerick favourite, and it is wonderful to connect the Arvo Pärt Centre in Estonia with Limerick to celebrate the 90th birthday of this globally celebrated composer.”
