FIANNA Fáil TD Willie O’Dea has urged an expediting of the planning permission process.

Speaking in the Dáil on the new Planning and Development bill, he said: “Three and two years, or five years in total, is too long (to process planning permissions)”.

“I would prefer to see somewhat shorter times than that, but we must bear in mind it is at the discretion of local authorities.

It is the local authority that will ultimately decide. A number of safeguards are built in.
