HOLDERS Adare swept past Fr Casey’s (Abbeyfeale), 1-15 to 0-9, in the opening round of the IWP Limerick Senior Football Championship in Newcastle West.

Mikey Lyons (1-1), Hugh Bourke (0-4), Shane O’Connor (0-4), and Jack English (0-3) led the scoring for the Maigusiders.

In the first tie of 2025, Oola swept past Na Piarsaigh, 4-15 to 1-9, in Caherconlish. The goals were flashed home by Josh Ryan (1-7), Jack Downey (1-4), Paddy Downey, and Mikey O’Brien.

Winning captain Darragh Murray was outstanding with a haul of 11 points.

In a pulsating Group Two tie, Newcastle West (NCW) squeezed past Mungret St Paul’s, 2-13 to 0-20, in Adare.

NCW, under the management of Kerry’s Liam Weir (Ballylongford), had led 0-10 to 1-3 at half-time.

Aaron Neville knocked over the winner in stoppage time.

NCW’s Eoin Hurley top-scored with 0-7, while the goals came from Darragh O’Hagan and Jack Somers.

At Kilmalock’s Fitzgerald Park, established figures Tony McCarthy, Kyle Hayes, Cathal Downes (1-3), and Peter Nash (0-6) were all to the fore as Kildimo Pallaskenry easily overcame Ballylanders, 2-17 to 0-7.

One outstanding fixture from round one, Galtee Gaels St Kieran’s, has, by mutual agreement, been pushed out to August 12.

A fragmented championship will resume at the weekend ending August 17.

Limerick will also run its Golden Boot Competition again this season, an award presented to the player with the highest score tally at the championship’s end.

In the opening couple of seasons, the winners were Peter Nash (Kildimo Pallaskenry) with 4-33 and Oola’s Josh Ryan (2-29).

The returns of Messrs Nash and Ryan were from six and five matches, respectively.

In the Intermediate Championship, Cappagh’s 3-9 to 1-13 defeat of Claughaun was the shock result of the weekend.
