THE hotly anticipated Irish St Leger got underway in Limerick this past weekend.
Now under new sponsorship as the Callaway Pro Am at Stud Irish St Leger, the curtain raiser was taken by Toolmaker Josepe, trained by Robert Gleeson and owned by William Hyslop.
Defending champion Clonbrien Treaty also made his long-awaited return and looked every inch a serious contender for a historic three-in-a-row. He finished second to Philip Buckley’s Blastoff Cooper in his heat.
Racing continues this coming Saturday night.
