A LIMERICK TD has slammed proposals to impose a new tyre levy of up to โฌ80 per tyre on tractors and agricultural machinery – labelling it a “disgraceful and tone-deaf attack on working farmers and contractors”.
Independent Ireland’s Richard O’Donoghue made the comments as a new levy, proposed by Circol ELT, is currently under review of the Department of the Environment.
“Who comes up with this nonsense?” O’Donoghue asked. “No proper consultation with farmers.
No proper understanding of the realities on the ground. Just another policy from the top down, designed by people who’ve clearly never set foot on a wet field or changed a tractor tyre in their lives.”
