UISCE รireann is to apply to Limerick City and County Council for 10-year planning permission to construct a new wastewater treatment plant in Dromcollogher, County Limerick.
The proposed development at Coolaboy is estimated to provide a treatment capacity of up to 40 years, a planning notice from Uisce รireann outlined.
The wastewater would be treated and discharged at the proposed plant via an outfall pipe into the Riverdeel approximately 6.5 kilometres from the plant.
The outfall pipe would be located primarily in public roads in towns such as Coolaboy, Mundellihy, Ballinlongig, Cloonmore and Tulligmacthomas.
Plans from Uisce รireann also include the development of an ESB sub-station, control building, and fuel tank, as well as the provision of a new gravity sewer to direct flows to the new waste water treatment plant.
This 54km sewer system will replace an existing combined sewer overflow which, if planning goes ahead, will be decommissioned after the process switchover.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels would also be included at the site, following the decommissioning of the old sewer system.
According to the planning notice, the proposed new plant at Dromcollogher will also account for adequate site lighting, access gates, access stairs, walkways, car parking, and electric charging facilities, as well as site boundary hedging and fencing.
The existing site entrance will also be realigned and widened to include a new access road onto the site and a bridge within the site.
The proposed development will be accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement (NIS).
