A LIMERICK man who was extradited from the United Kingdom to face charges of false imprisonment and assault appeared for a second time before Limerick District Court this week.
James O’Sullivan, with an address at Hazel Avenue, Dromcollogher, County Limerick, appeared before Judge Patricia Harney, sitting at Limerick District Court, this past Tuesday (Jul 22).
The 25-year-old Limerick man was extradited from the UK on June 25 last and arrested by Gardaà before being charged.
Mr O’Sullivan appeared accused of one count of false imprisonment of a man, contrary to Section 15 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, the court heard.
The false imprisonment is alleged to have occurred two years ago at Croom, County Limerick, on January 6, 2023.
Mr O’Sullivan is also charged before the courts with assaulting a man contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, at Croom, County Limerick, on the same date.
He had previously appeared via video link but was brought to the court in person from Limerick Prison for Tuesday’s sitting.
The court was earlier informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed Mr O’Sullivan face a trial on indictment.
The accused man did not address the court during the short hearing.
Judge Harney remanded him in custody to appear again on August 13, when she said it would be expected that he would signal a plea or a book of evidence would be sought.
There were no details or evidence given during either of the short hearings.
