‘Incoherent’ woman jailed after driving high on drugs in Limerick

A DRIVER who was disqualified four times for driving without insurance has been sent to prison after Gardaรญ caught her high on drugs while driving uninsured down a one-way street in Limerick.

34-year-old Lily Doyle, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty before Limerick District Court to charges of drug driving, driving without any insurance, driving without a driver’s licence, and careless driving in Limerick City on July 5, 2025.

Judge Patricia Harney heard that Ms Doyle was spotted by local Gardaรญ while driving the wrong way down a one-way street in the city.

When Ms Doyle was stopped, the court heard, she was “incoherent”, a Garda said in evidence. The Garda added that the woman’s “speech was slurred” and that she “admitted she had smoked crack cocaine”.

Judge Patricia Harney, sitting in Limerick District Court, heard that Ms Doyle was “very co-operative” after she was stopped by Gardaรญ on the date in question.

Ms Doyle has 59 previous convictions, the court was told, including driving without insurance or a licence, theft, four for hit-and-run, careless driving, possession of illegal drugs, and failing to appear in court.

Judge Harney sentenced Ms Doyle to three months in jail and disqualified her from driving for 10 years for driving without insurance.

Ms Doyle was also disqualified for four years for drug-driving and fined โ‚ฌ1,000.

Judge Harney also imposed a four-week prison sentence on Ms Doyle for having no licence, to run consecutively with the three-month sentence.

The careless driving conviction was taken into consideration.
