Armed gang caught on camera setting car alight and attacking house

Men with hatchets and accelerant accosted the home and fled in a black car.

GARDAร are investigating a motive for an arson attack and damage caused to a home in Castleconnell in the early hours of this Friday morning (August 8).

The violent attack, carried out by four masked men armed with hatchets and accelerant, occurred at around 1.30am this Friday morning.

CCTV footage shared on social media showed that, as one of the males entered the curtilage of the property with a hatchet, two of the perpetrators smashed up a car parked outside the home, while the fourth male set the vehicle on fire.

The men then fled in a black car as the distressed occupants of the house emerged from the property.

A female voice can be heard on the footage as the men are carrying out the attack, shouting: โ€œWhat are you doing … scumbags … f*****g scumbag, youโ€™re f*****g deadโ€.

A male voice is then heard on the recording asking for someone to โ€œring the fire brigade, Jesus, quick, ring the guardsโ€.

The masked gangโ€™s getaway car was driven by a fifth man.

A Garda statement said that โ€œGardaรญ received a report of an incident of criminal damage that occurred this Friday 8th August 2025 at approximately 1.30am in Castleconnellโ€.

โ€œA vehicle and a domestic residence have been reported as damaged.

โ€œNo injuries have been reported at this time.โ€

The Garda statement added that โ€œinvestigations are ongoing”.
