THERE were some notable local wins at the Galway Racing Festival, which enjoyed an increased attendance to a collective 125,000 punters.

Abbeyfealeโ€™s Paddy Harnett rode his first Festival winner when partnering Donnacha O’Brienโ€™s 11/2 chance Kilmeaden to a battling success in a 12-furlong handicap

Charles Byrnes and son Philip of Ballingarry combined to win the two and three-quarter-mile Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase with the 11-year-old Turnpike Trip (20/1).

Wesley Joyce, Southill, won the seven-furlong handicap on the Michael Mulvany-trained Storm Averted (7/1).
