Council asked to consider ‘outdoor seating rebate’

Meeting of members of Limerick City and County Council.

THE Council have been asked to consider an outdoor seating rebate for outlets which prescribe to a living wage.

Proposing the motion, Independent councillor Ursula Gavan took the view that this could encourage late night activity in the local economy.

Director of the Metropolitan District Kieran Lehane told Council members that the government intends to waive the โ‚ฌ125 per table per year fee for businesses such as restaurants, cafes, pubs, and hotels that place tables and chairs on public roads or footpaths.

The Council, Mr Lehane explained, has not introduced a specific rebate or incentive scheme that links outdoor seating licences or supports to businesses that pay a living wage.
