Féile na Gréine: a citywide celebration of independent music

One of Ireland’s most innovative and community-driven festivals, Féile na Gréine, makes its return to Limerick this weekend with an eclectic line-up for its 2025 edition.

Running from Friday 15 August to Sunday 17 August, the three-day event will take festivalgoers on a musical journey across the city, from underground clubs and craft breweries to open-air street parties and revered arts spaces.

Now firmly established as a staple of Limerick’s cultural calendar, the festival champions the vibrant independent music scene, blending experimental artistry with grassroots energy.

With over 30 events across nine venues, this year’s programme spans a wide range of genres – from ambient soundscapes and folk storytelling to gritty electronica and genre-defying live acts.

The weekend begins with a special performance of Amanda Feery’s ‘NEST’ at the Redemptorist Church. Inspired by Éamon de Valera’s 1943 speech On Language and the Irish Nation, the piece offers a contemplative exploration of home, land, and belonging, setting a reflective and poignant tone for the festival’s opening night.

Festivalgoers can look forward to performances from Connemara shoegaze artist Maria Somerville, dream-pop trio Womb (visiting from New Zealand), and acclaimed experimental folk songwriter Joshua Burnside. Also among the standout names is Zkellies, a new live techno collaboration featuring Andy Connolly (FKA Naive Ted), Dan Walsh, and Bill Karnation (they call it – repetitive dance music played by hand & foot, without sequencers, loops or backing tracks).

The STARLING venue will once again serve as a hub for experimental performance and sound art, hosting acts such as Michael Speers, Seth Frightening, Autism Controller, and Osaro – all known for pushing the boundaries of genre and form.

Meanwhile, Ormston House will present a double bill of immersive works by David Murphy & Ether Ensemble and electroacoustic composer Harry Gorski-Brown.

Founded by a collective of musicians, designers, photographers and creatives, Féile na Gréine has built a national reputation through its fiercely independent, DIY ethos.

From its commitment to platforming underrepresented voices to its pay-it-forward attitude, the festival continues to showcase the best of Irish creativity in its rawest and most original forms.

Events are primarily low-cost or free, keeping accessibility central to the festival’s vision.
