LIMERICK Greyhound Stadium played host to the final of the Callaway Pro-Am at Stud Irish St Leger this past weekend.

Large crowds gathered to see the top dog take the crown, with surprise winner Drombeg Banner coming out on top on massive 20/1 odds.

Owned and trained by 18-year-old Evan McAuliffe of Athlacca, this son of Explosive Boy and Hazelfield Echo led from trap rise but connections had to wait for confirmation of a photo finish to confirm that he had held on for this incredible win, and with it a cool prize of €30,000.

He finished ahead of the Paul Hennessy-trained Flight Club, owned in Newcastle West by Carol O’Riordan, with Philip Buckley’s Blastoff Heffo in third.
