
THE 2025 National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships took place in Ballyhoura, County Limerick, for the very first time on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July, this landmark event brought together 200 of Ireland’s top riders – including elite competitors just back from the UCI World Cup circuit.
Hosted by Limerick Mountain Biking Club in collaboration with Ballyhoura Trailriders Ltd, the event was a huge success. Not least as both the men’s and women’s events were won by members of Limerick Mountain Biking Club.
Men’s overall winner was Oisin O’Callaghan, who is currently ranked fourth in the world in the men’s overall UCI world championship.
Women’s winner was Blaithin Sweeny, who just finished transition year in Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh, who won the national championships for the first time. Both riders were presented with their national champion’s jersey by cycling Ireland CEO James Quilligan on the day.
“It was only possible to run the race because of the huge number of volunteers marshalling on the course over the weekend,” an event spokesperson said.
