MAINTENANCE and enhancement works are ongoing in the Treaty City as part of Limerick City and County Council’s commitment to creating “a more welcoming, vibrant, and enjoyable urban environment for residents and visitors alike”.

The Council said that the refurbishment works aim to support “a more enjoyable use of public spaces along the quays” and create “a more pleasant atmosphere for pedestrians and shoppers”.

The Council is also replanting raised flowerbeds on O’Connell Street this month. With works now largely completed, these flowerbeds, the local authority said, will beautify the streetscape and contribute to biodiversity in the city centre, “bringing fresh colour and life to one of our busiest thoroughfares”.

The repainting of park benches in Arthur’s Quay Park is also underway, with the Council’s aim being to bring “a cleaner, brighter, and more polished look to the park”.

The local authority is also re-introducing picnic benches by Shannon Bridge, which will offer locals and visitors “a scenic riverside location” for “outdoor dining, socialising, or simply taking in the view”.

Also included in the plans is “regular washing” of Bedford Row, and railing replacements for Sarsfield Bridge which will offer greater safety while also “preserving the bridge’s historic character”.

Roundabout cleaning has also commenced to improve visibility, safety, and overall appearance for motorists and pedestrians.

These works are currently ongoing at roundabouts at Vistakon, Kilmurray, Castletroy Park, Garryglass, Tipperary Road, Kilmallock Road, Roxboro Road, Coonagh, Clondrinagh, and all three roundabouts on the Dock Road.
