A WEST Limerick town is in mourning as a local man who lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident last week is to be laid to rest.
Sean Connolly, of Ardagh, County Limerick, originally of Drumcliff, County Sligo, lost his life in a road crash last Friday morning (August 15).
The father of two was riding his motorcycle on the N69 between Tarbert and Listowel in County Kerry when he was involved in a collision with a truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The 45-year-old worked at Carron’s Haulage in Limerick, and was well known locally for his love of motorcycles.
He will be reposing at O’Grady’s Funeral Home in Ballingarry this Tuesday evening (August 19) from 4pm to 7pm.
Requiem Mass will be held at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballingarry, from 11am on Wednesday morning (August 20), followed by burial in St Mary’s Cemetery in Ballingarry.
Mourners, in the day’s since the young father’s death, have described him as “a true gentleman” and a “genius” in his work.
Those around the family sent heartfelt condolences during the time of “unimaginable sorrow”.
“As your neighbours here in Rathcormac with similar aged family, we feel lost for words of comfort to offer you in this time of unbearable grief,” one family posted in tribute to Mr Connolly’s Sligo family.
Many spoke of his dedication to his work Carron’s Haulage and the mutual high regard between Mr Connolly and his colleagues.
“Sean was a genius at his profession but more so he was one sound gentleman, it was a pleasure to know Sean and he will be sadly missed but remembered highly,” one mourner wrote.
Another said that “Sean was such a lovely fellow to work with, and a privilege to have known”.
Mr Connolly is deeply regretted by his children Caoimhe and Brendan, their mother Kate, his parents Deirdre and Brendan, brothers David and Peter, niece Croía, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, and a wide extended network of family, friends, co-workers, and neighbours.
Gardaí have issued a public appeal for any witnesses to the fatal crash – which took place between 9.45am and 10.15am on August 15 – to come forward to Listowel Garda Station (068 50 820), the Garda Confidential Line (1800 666 111), or any Garda station.
Investigations into the young father’s death are still ongoing.
