TWO men were being treated at University Hospital Limerick this Monday (August 18), following an alleged violent assault in popular seaside town in County Clare.

Gardaí said four males sustained injuries in the incident, which took place in Miltown Malbay at around 7.10pm this past Sunday evening (August 17).

A video of part of the alleged incident was shared widely across social media, in which one man appeared to have blood running down his face.

Gardaí said they “responded to reports of a public order incident involving a number of individuals at Main Street, Miltown Malbay, County Clare”.

“Four males (two aged in their 20s, one aged in his 30s and one in his 40s) sustained injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening,” a Garda statement read.

Gardaí added that one of the injured males, the young man in his 20s, “received medical treatment at the scene” and that “two males, aged in their 30s and 40s, were subsequently conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment”.

The scene was preserved for a Garda technical examination as Gardaí investigated the motive for the alleged violent attack.

Appealing for witnesses, Gardaí asked that “anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, including road users with video / dashcam footage from the area at this time” contact investigating officers at Ennis Garda Station on 065 684 8100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing. No further information is available at this time,” Gardaí said.
