IT was a day of celebration tinged with a little sadness for the communities of Croom and Banogue, as they turned out for the traditional Mass of the Assumption and to say goodbye to people who have been pillars of the parish.

In Croom, August 15 has traditionally been marked with Mass at the Well Meadow.ย  The last two years saw unseasonal rain, but this year the sun shone at Croom Town Park.

This was a very special mass for the communities of Croom and Banogue as Cannon Willie Fitzmaurice has retired from the Parish.ย  He was recognised by many as a great community man, and a fantastic parish priest. Cannon Willie has served in Croom since 2014.

Also retiring in the Parish are Tom and Eileen Moloney from their roles as sacristan and administrator. They have served with Cannon Willie for 11 years and are loved for their great support at important family times.

Maureen Curtin, a board member with Croom Community Development said that โ€œthis year has been very special, as a community we have come together and are able to say thank you to Cannon Willie and Eileen and Tom”.

“We are delighted to welcome Cannon Denis Mullane to Croom,โ€ they added.

Mrs Curtin also commented that โ€œCroom Town Park is a fantastic venue for the Mass with its mass rock and the traditional well just near by. We thank staff from Croom Community Development for their work to have the park looking so well.โ€
