LIMERICK Sports Partnership (LSP) has received around €340,000 in welcome funding from the 2025 Dormant Accounts Programme.
It is part of a national investment in community sports and physical activity initiatives.
Phelim Macken, manager of Limerick Sports Partnership, said that “through this funding we hope that even more people will be able to enjoy the benefits that sports participation and a healthy lifestyle can bring and feel included and welcomed in their communities”.
An allocation of €120,000 has been set aside to support Limerick’s Active Cities Initiative, which includes activation of local parks and expansion of BoxUp units for free equipment use.
The monies, €72,000 in this element, will also help extend Community Sports Hubs in Garryowen and Moyross, along with the development of a new one in Kilmallock.
Almost €30,000 is earmarked for Sports Inclusion Disability Projects; €20,000 for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and €12,000 for Her Moves Initiative.
In addition, €46,000 is listed for Urban Outdoor Adventure Initiative and another €40,000 for Volunteer Supports.
The announcement was made by local TD and Minister for Sport Patrick O’Donovan.
“Every person should have the opportunity to participate in sport, and this funding will help to ensure that new opportunities and new sports are opened to people of all abilities and backgrounds across this country,” the Minister said
