MAYOR of Limerick John Moran has signed two mayoral orders to help deliver almost 100 new homes across the county.
The Mayor ordered the release of Capital Advance Leasing Facility (CALF) funding to Clรบid Housing Association for the delivery of 86 new homes at Greenpark on the Dock Road.
The Mayor said that the aim of these social homes will be focused on providing for the elderly and those looking to rightsize, and will be delivered and managed by Clรบid as part of an overall development of 371 homes.
The remaining 285 units will be sold on the private market.
Seven new homes are also on the way in Broadford, in a development which will comprise of four two-bedroom and three one-bed houses.
These properties, when built, will be allocated to elderly people – with five of the allocations to be decided by Limerick City and County Council and the final two by Broadford Voluntary Housing Association.
Construction on these homes will commence in early 2026 and are expected to be completed by early 2027.
The Mayor also signalled progress on the Foynes to Limerick Road, which will provide a motorway upgrade from Rathkeale to Attyflin.
This third in the latest set of mayoral orders will help advance the 35km road beyond Adare and out to Foynes, and will connect the core Port of Foynes to the motorway network near Limerick.
The Council has also entered a 12-month licence agreement for a property at Brewery Lane as part of the popular Askeaton Tourist Trail.
The previously derelict property was acquired through compulsory purchase order and later renovated by the Council.
It will now be used as a location on the trail following an agreement with Askeaton Civic Trust in a bid to boost the local tourism offering.
This forms part of the Mayor’s Shannon Estuary growth triangle plan, in which Askeaton will be one of the key towns.
Mayor Moran remarked that this latest round of mayoral orders “demonstrate the action we’re continuing to take in Limerick City and County Council to deliver housing in both the city and county; to upgrade our transport infrastructure; and to improve the tourism offering in rural Limerick.”
