SIX Limerick projects are to benefit from a cash injection of more than โฌ200,000 as community-led sustainability initiatives.
SSE Airtricity is supplying the cash injection its Generation Green Community Fund.
The six local projects are among 56 across Ireland to receive full funding through the โฌ5 million fund.
The fully funded initiatives will aim to support community resilience planning, promote community environmental programmes, and advance sustainable infrastructure development in their local areas, while encouraging long-term environmental stewardship and inclusive community engagement:
Manor Fields Adare, TASC (the Think-tank for Action on Social Change),ย Burrenbeo Trust , ACT (Accelerating Change Together), the Irish Schools Sustainability Network, and Teen-Turn will all benefit from the fund at a local level in Limerick.
Announcing the funding allocations, Stephen Gallagher, managing director of SSE Airtricity, said:โฏ”We’re delighted to support these projects – and a whole range of other ambitious, community-led sustainability projects across the island of Ireland. Achieving net zero is a shared responsibility, and these initiatives show how vital local leadership is in Ireland’s green energy transition.”
“We have listened to the needs of our communities, and they’ve told us what matters most – from improving biodiversity to enhancing local infrastructure and education. We understand the challenges many projects and groups face in accessing funding resources, and we’re proud to play a part in enabling them to create lasting environmental and social impact.”
The 56 funded initiatives across Ireland span a wide range of focus areas including renewable energy upgrades, biodiversity restoration, climate resilience planning, and sustainability education – and were selected for their innovation, local impact, and alignment with Ireland’s climate goals.
