AFTER a stellar career, Iain Corbett has announced his retirement from inter-county football with Limerick.

Across 14 seasons, the proud Newcastle West clubman has been an exceptional performer.

He was captain for several years.

The 2020 All-Star nominee announced his departure through a short post on Instagram.

He keeps it short and sweet, captioning a selection of photos from a terrific 2025 for the county: โ€œNot all stories have happy endings.โ€

Corbettโ€™s last outing with Limerick was the narrow Tailteann Cup final loss to Kildare at Croke Park.

At the same venue a few weeks earlier, Limerick toppled Wexford in a memorable Division Four League decider.

He previously helped us to league success in both 2013 and โ€˜20.

Corbett is aged 33, and will continue to line out on the club front.

Ahead of his departure, he expressed frustration in relation to the seeding of Cork and Kerry in next yearโ€™s Munster Championship.

Corbett told SunSport: โ€œItโ€™s extremely disappointing. The most disappointing thing of all is that Limerick have kind of facilitated it.โ€

โ€œObviously Kerry and Cork have their own reasons for voting for it and it accommodates them at the moment.

โ€œBut after the players and management had voiced their concerns about it, it was disappointing not to be backed.

โ€œFellas give up years of their lives for opportunities like playing in a Munster final.

โ€œBut you might never get that now because youโ€™re always going to be playing a Cork or a Kerry, which obviously makes it a lot more difficult.

โ€œSometimes you need the luck of a draw on your side.โ€
