THERE will be no change to the Local Property Tax (LPT) rate for Limerick homeowners in 2026.
Limerick City and County Council elected representatives this Tuesday voted in favour of keeping the LPT and its variation rate at 2025 levels for next year – 15 per cent above the base.
This decision secures funding of an additional โฌ2.56m for the Council’s 2026’s budget.
Mayor John Moran said the decision reflects the Councilโs commitment to maintaining essential services.
โIt’s about striking the right balance between fiscal responsibility and community support. We’re proud to continue investing in the future of Limerick,โ Mayor Moran said after this Tuesdayโs meeting.
Council Prรญomh Chomhairleoir Cllr Catherine Slattery believes that keeping the rate steady allows the Council to continue investing in communities and planning for the year ahead.
โIt ensures we can deliver improvements in areas like road safety, public spaces, and local amenities. This is a vote for stability and progress,โ Cllr Slattery said.
Programmes funded by the LPT in 2025 included maintenance of local and regional roads, street cleaning including investment in new plants, traffic calming measures, maintenance of parks, pitches and open spaces, tourism development and promotion, library service and fire service.
Council Director General, Dr Pat Daly, said that the LPT remains a vital source of funding for local services that people rely on every day.
โFrom libraries to fire services, this funding helps us maintain high standards across the board. It’s a cornerstone of our annual budget planning,โ he concluded.
