EVA International has announced the programme for the 41st edition of Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, which will run in Limerick from August 29 to October 26, 2025.
This year’s Guest Programme, It Takes a Village, is curated by Eszter Szakács in collaboration with the EVA team. Borrowing from the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child,” the exhibition explores themes of collaboration, social justice and historical repair. The programme will feature new commissions and presentations from Irish and international artists including Noor Abuarafeh, Marwa Arsanios, Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, Yazan Khalili, Naeem Mohaiemen, Eimear Walshe and many others.
Partnerships include OFF-Biennale Budapest, presenting works by Gypsy Criminals and Gideon Horváth, and Limerick’s Ormston House, with contributions from Seán Hannan, Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh and Kiera O’Toole.
Alongside this, the EVA Platform Commissions, selected by Iarlaith Ní Fheorais and Roy Claire Potter, will explore notions of access and inclusivity. Featured artists include Éireann and I (Joselle Ntumba and Beulah Ezeugo), Bridget O’Gorman, Colm Keady-Tabbal, Olivia Normile and Lyónn Wolf.
Presented across a wide range of venues in Limerick, from cultural institutions to community settings, the biennial will highlight collaborative approaches to shaping a more equitable future.
The opening weekend will feature talks, performances and live events, with contributions from Lyónn Wolf, Ana Bravo-Pérez, Noor Abuarafeh and Eimear Walshe. The official opening will be followed by an afterparty, hosted in collaboration with DYKE NITE x The Breeding Room, at Dolans on August 29.
