Hejira return to honour Joni Mitchell’s late ‘70s masterworks

World-class musicians led by Hattie Whitehead set to perform iconic repertoire

Acclaimed tribute ensemble Hejira will return to Limerick’s Belltable on Thursday September 4, presenting a masterful celebration of Joni Mitchell’s extraordinary musical legacy.

The seven-piece band of world-class musicians is fronted by the exceptional Hattie Whitehead, whose vocal interpretation captures the poise, power, and beauty of Mitchell’s distinctive style whilst demonstrating her own mastery of Mitchell’s intricate guitar techniques and stylistic nuances.

The evening’s programme will showcase Mitchell’s most celebrated compositions, including “Amelia”, “Woodstock”, “A Case Of You”, “Song For Sharon”, and “Edith And The Kingpin”, drawn primarily from the artist’s groundbreaking late 1970s period.

Hejira comprises Whitehead on vocals and guitar alongside an accomplished lineup: Ollie Weston (tenor and soprano saxophones), Chris Eldred (keys), Pete Oxley (guitar), Dave Jones (bass), Rick Finlay (drums), and Marc Cecil (percussion).

The ensemble was conceived specifically to honour Mitchell’s masterpiece albums from this transformative era, including “The Hissing of Summer Lawns”, “Hejira”, “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter”, and “Mingus”.

Following these releases, Mitchell assembled a touring band featuring some of the era’s finest musicians, including Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, and Don Alias.

This legendary tour was captured on the outstanding live album “Shadows And Light”, which serves as the primary source material for Hejira’s carefully curated repertoire, ensuring audiences experience Mitchell’s music as it was performed at its creative peak.
